All of us recognize it, that little voice which comes from within. This voice talks to us at the weirdest of hours, and sometimes awakens us in the middle of the night. Our inner voice possesses an uncanny ability to alter our mood in the most profound manner. It can get us down in the dumps and on occasions, make us feel like we can achieve the impossible!
I believe our inner voice is a versatile actor that assumes numerous roles every day – that of a supportive friend, an honourable guide, a prized confidante, an inspiring teacher and at times, a larger-than-life demon. That’s when things get out of hand.
Recognizing Your Inner Demons
Life cannot always be a bed of roses. We can all find sore points in our lives that make us unhappy – ill health, lack of money, shortage of time, too much time, monotony, dissatisfaction at work, a difficult boss; the list is endless. With time, thoughts about what’s lacking in our lives become all-pervasive, and slowly turn into fire-spouting inner demons that stop us in our tracks and thwart our progress. How you tackle your inner demons is what defines you as a person.
Here are my top 5 Weapons to face Inner Demons and Emerge a Winner –
1. Believe in Yourself & Your Abilities
Despite 10+ years of writing experience as a content writer, self doubt continues to be my biggest inner demon. Doubting yourself and your abilities is dangerous; it saps you of all your positive energies and makes you weak and feeble. Don’t second guess yourself. Come what may, fight self-doubt and believe in yourself; if you don’t, no one else ever will.

2. Look Inwards & Connect with the Self
Self-acceptance is the first step towards a healthy and happy life. Understand your strengths and weaknesses; accept yourself for who you are. Stop comparing yourself and your life with others. There will always be someone richer, taller, thinner, prettier, and more successful than you. That’s okay.
Be thankful for what you have, don’t be sorry for what you don’t!
Learn from those you admire, and take steps to better your life.
3. Make Positive Affirmations
Whenever you are feeling unsure or unhappy about any aspect of your life, correct your negative thoughts and turn them into positive affirmations. You and you alone have the power to give your 100% to everything you do in life. Let your inner voice be your strength and not your enemy. I often repeat this simple statement which is my No. 1 positive affirmation –
“My creative thoughts are flowing smoothly. I have all that it takes to do a brilliant job. This is going to be my best work yet.”
4. Celebrate your Victories
Sadness and joy are two sides of the same coin. Every time you succeed at something, rejoice. Celebrate your smallest victories and savour the taste of success. But when you fail at something, deal with those negative feelings of hurt and sadness; then move on. Don’t moan your failures and miss out on other opportunities of success!
Tell yourself – ‘this too shall pass’.
5. Be a Fighter
After every dark night, comes a beautiful morning. Be like the morning that never fails to do its duty and always rises from the dark. Take small steps towards your goals, learn from your mistakes and focus on your dreams.
Let your inner voice be your friend, companion and confidante but never let it turn into a demon.
