The Positive Influence of Writing in My Life: Benefits of Writing

In my life, the benefits of writing have been profound.

Back in my school days, I remember envying kids who came to class visibly cool and composed just before a test. I, on the other hand, was a nervous wreck; worried, apprehensive, and unsure of myself.

No matter how hard I tried, I was wrapped in self-doubt with dreadful possibilities stealing my composure and peace of mind.

What if I forget everything I’ve studied?

What if I write too slowly and can’t complete the test?

I dreaded exam days and hoped one day, I would never have to write a test again!

Despite my nerves, before and during those excruciating exam hours, I would invariably find myself calm, confident and relaxed as I attempted questions requiring self-expression and forethought.

Drafting essays in English and Hindi was especially enjoyable, and it didn’t feel like such a compulsion.

“Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” ~ E. L. Doctorow

In college too, presenting my views and thoughts using the written word came in handy, as I studied Advertising and Marketing. I loved expressing my opinions on “Is Advertising a Bane or a Boon”, “The Importance of Public Service Advertising”, etc.

Writing got me going. It gave me a unique voice and instilled in me confidence, hope, and positivity.

With time, my rendezvous with writing blossomed into a full-time career as a freelance content writer.

I had learned how to contain my nervous energies and turn them around into building something that was meaningful, unique, and immensely satisfying.

In case you’re wondering, even research confirms that writing can improve our emotional and physical health.
